Meet Francis Cabangan: Remote Systems Engineer

At Fairdinkum, our strength comes from the people behind the technology, and Francis Cabangan is a great example of that in action.

Based in the Philippines, Francis brings a thoughtful, steady approach to his work, paired with a mindset that keeps him open to learning and new challenges.

From Customer Service to IT

Francis describes himself as flexible, open-minded and resourceful, qualities that show up clearly in how he approaches both challenges and opportunities.

His now 10-year IT career wasn’t something he expected early on. In fact, his first-ever job was in fast food — customer service work that required patience, adaptability and the ability to think on his feet.

That experience became the foundation for how he works today. Communicating clearly, understanding what people actually need and staying calm under pressure are all skills he developed early on and still relies on in his role at Fairdinkum.

Always Learning, Always Improving

One thing that stands out about Francis is his mindset: progress over perfection.

Invest and upskill. It doesn’t matter where you start as long as you start.”

That perspective reflects how he approaches his work and personal goals alike. Whether it’s building new skills or taking on new challenges, he focuses on steady improvement rather than quick wins.

Life Outside of Work

Outside of work, you’ll often find Francis gaming, hiking and exploring local beaches when he has the chance.

He also has a long-standing passion for fishkeeping, something he’s been interested in since his school days. While it might seem like a simple hobby on the surface, it requires a surprising amount of time, care and attention to detail. From maintaining water quality to monitoring fish health and managing tank conditions, it’s a hands-on commitment that rewards patience and consistency.

It’s a hobby that mirrors how Francis approaches his work: patient, methodical and always paying attention to the details others might overlook.

But he’s just as willing to step outside his routine. One of his most memorable recent experiences was canyoneering in Cebu — an adventure that included jumping from heights of up to 10 meters into clear blue water. It’s the kind of experience that reflects his openness to trying something new and pushing beyond his comfort zone.

Not every day looks like that, but it’s a reminder of the kind of mindset he brings to both work and life.

What Keeps Him Going

If you ask Francis what he can’t live without, the answer is simple: his phone — an everyday tool that helps him stay connected, keep learning and unwind when needed.

More broadly, his motivation comes from a strong sense of responsibility and forward momentum. He’s driven by the desire to build a better future for himself, his family and even his dog and fish, while continuing to grow in his career.

That combination — staying connected, staying curious and staying focused on what matters — shapes how he approaches both work and life.

Looking Ahead

Over the next year, Francis is focused on continuing to grow both professionally and personally.

His goals include expanding his technical skill set, becoming more physically active and exploring beyond local destinations — hopefully making it to Japan.

But more than the goals themselves, it’s the mindset behind them that stands out: a commitment to keep learning, improving and pushing forward, one step at a time.

Francis brings a steady, adaptable presence to the Fairdinkum team — someone who stays open to learning, applies his experience in meaningful ways and is always looking for ways to move forward. And that’s exactly the kind of mindset that helps our team (and our clients) move forward with confidence.
