Meet Adam Holmes: Systems Engineer and Team Lead
Ask Adam Holmes to describe himself, and he keeps it simple: calm and consistent. Ask him about fantasy football, though, and you’ll learn he’s also the back-to-back champion of Fairdinkum’s annual league.
As a Systems Engineer and Team Lead, Adam brings 10 years of IT experience to the Fairdinkum team—and an appreciation for the people side of technology that has grown along the way.
An Unexpected Lesson in IT
Adam originally studied occupational therapy in college before changing his major. He already had an interest in technology, and IT seemed like a promising career to pursue.
Once he entered the field, he discovered that the technical side was only part of what the job required. “Clear communication and service are more important than I thought they would be when I first chose IT as my major,” he shares.
It’s a perspective that fits Fairdinkum’s approach to supporting clients. Troubleshooting involves more than finding a fix. People also need someone who can explain what’s happening and help them understand the next step.
Kentucky Roots, Friendly Competition and Good Records
Adam grew up in Owsley County, Kentucky, where attending a small high school gave him the chance to try a little of everything. He played basketball, baseball and golf, and ran cross country.
That interest in sports has stayed with him. He follows the Cincinnati Reds and Bengals, enjoys watching basketball and still makes time for basketball, golf and disc golf. His competitive streak also has an outlet at work: Fairdinkum’s fantasy football league.
Sports are only part of how Adam spends his downtime. He also enjoys chess, whittling and collecting vinyl records, with thrift-shop visits offering the chance to hunt for something worth bringing home.
His musical favorites include John Prine for his songwriting, Sturgill Simpson for his range across genres, and Chet Atkins and Doc Watson for their guitar playing. And while Adam says he’s “not a big karaoke guy,” he does have a song ready if the occasion calls for it: “Man of Constant Sorrow.”
Getting to Know Adam
With all those interests, Adam is still clear about where he most wants to spend his time: with family or at church. When asked about a favorite memory, he points to the birth of his son. Being present as his son grows up is especially important to him.
Adam’s faith and family also motivate him to keep improving, both at work and in life.
We’re glad to have him with us—and we’ll be watching to see who challenges him for the next fantasy football title.
